AberVAT was set up by Fay Laing in January 2010.  Having identified a gap in the market for a niche, specialist VAT consultancy Fay established AberVAT with one aim in mind - to make VAT crystal clear for clients by offering straight-forward specialist VAT consultancy services.

Based in Aberdeen AberVAT is unique in what it offers to clients. As Managing Director Fay’s background is impressive with over 20 years VAT experience, knowledge and expertise.  Having worked at HMRC for over 10 years, latterly as a VAT officer carrying out inspections, HMRC was the ideal training ground and allowed her unrivalled access to the inner workings of this complex subject. 

Fay left HMRC in 1996 taking her knowledge and expertise to clients through working in private practice.  She worked for two of the ‘big four’ accountancy firms in Aberdeen before being approached by Anderson Anderson and Brown.  She continued to broaden her experience and knowledge from the clients perspective giving her a unique ‘all round’ 360 degree view on VAT.
